Muslim University of Morogoro
Muslim University of Morogoro (MUM) is a private university in Morogoro, Tanzania, established to provide quality higher education within an Islamic framework. The university was founded in 2004 when President Benjamin Mkapa granted it to the Muslim Development Fund (MDF), an organization chaired by the late Kitwana Kondo, with board members including Ramadhani Dau and Abdulrahman Kinana, the former Vice Chairman of Tanzania’s ruling party. MUM officially began operations in 2005 and has since grown into a leading institution in the country.

Tuition
- No MUM fee figures could be verified — contact mum@mum.ac.tz or +255 715 636 905. ASK ABOUT ZAKAT OR WAQF-BASED BURSARIES: Islamic institutions commonly operate these endowment structures for student support and they are almost never listed in mainstream fee directories, so they will not surface unless you ask. Add the TZS 20,000 annual TCU quality assurance fee, and note HESLB is a separate OLAMS application. Morogoro living costs are well below Dar es Salaam.
Admissions
- ASK WHICH TCU TIER MUM HOLDS. TCU assigns institutions to 'Accredited and Chartered', 'Accredited', or 'Provisional Licence' — the last means legally operating but not fully accredited, which may affect how your qualification is recognised. MUM's tier was not established. TCU also publishes a list of institutions NOT authorised to offer university education; check any institution against it before paying fees.
- If you are not Muslim, ask directly whether you would be admitted. This was not established and should not be assumed either way — note that Ruaha Catholic University, also in Tanzania, answers the equivalent question explicitly by stating it is open to all faiths.
- Ask whether Arabic proficiency is required for Islamic studies programmes.
- IF APPLYING FOR LAW: ask whether the degree leads toward legal practice qualification in Tanzania.
- DIRECT ENTRY: two ACSEE principal passes at E or above totalling 4.0 points.
- Accepts international applicants
