Tuition
- No KIUT fee figures could be verified — contact info@kiut.ac.tz, admissions@kiut.ac.tz or +255 782 777 775. IF YOU ARE NOT A TANZANIAN CITIZEN, HESLB IS CLOSED TO YOU — and that matters more here than almost anywhere else in this directory, because KIUT was founded by a Ugandan university and is likely to have a meaningful non-Tanzanian intake. Establish what other funding exists, and ask whether Kampala International University in Uganda offers anything to students at its Tanzanian institution. Ask too whether Ugandan students receive different rates. If you study through the Institute of Open and Distance Learning, note the same tension flagged at the Open University of Tanzania: HESLB excludes applicants employed under an established contract, and distance study is built for working adults. Gongo la Mboto is on the city's outskirts, cheaper than central Dar es Salaam. Add the TZS 20,000 annual TCU quality assurance fee.
Admissions
- ESTABLISH WHOSE DEGREE YOU WOULD RECEIVE — this is the central question at KIUT and it is unresolved. It was founded in 2008 specifically to deliver Kampala International University's Ugandan courses in Tanzania, and is now separately TCU-accredited in its own right. Whether the certificate says KIUT or KIU Uganda determines how the qualification is recognised. Ask before enrolling.
- ASK ALSO WHETHER THE QUALIFICATION IS RECOGNISED IN BOTH COUNTRIES. Cross-border recognition is precisely what a cross-border institution ought to deliver, and it was not established.
- TCU records KIUT as 'ACCREDITED' — the middle of three tiers, below 'Accredited and Chartered' and above 'Provisional Licence'.
- DIRECT ENTRY: two ACSEE principal passes at E or above totalling 4.0 points. Ugandan and other foreign qualifications must be assessed by the appropriate Tanzanian body — NECTA, NACTVET or TCU depending on level.
- Accepts international applicants
