Tuition
- No ZU fee figures could be verified; the university's own site carries tuition and scholarship information, so request it directly. ASK SPECIFICALLY ABOUT DARUL IMAN SCHOLARSHIPS. ZU is sponsored by a charitable association rather than owned commercially, and charitable sponsors frequently extend support to students — this is a funding route a commercially owned private university would not have, and it is worth pursuing before you assume the sticker price. BUDGET FOR THE 19KM. The campus sits at Tunguu in quiet countryside, and although public transport reaches it, daily commuting from Zanzibar Town would be a real burden — settle accommodation before you commit. Add the TZS 20,000 annual TCU quality assurance fee.
Admissions
- ZU'S MISSION COMMITS IT TO EDUCATING WITHOUT DISCRIMINATION OF RACE, RELIGION OR PHYSICAL DISABILITY. Despite Islamic sponsorship, the university states plainly that it does not restrict admission on religious grounds — which answers, for this institution, the question left open at most faith-founded institutions in this directory. The explicit inclusion of physical disability is rarer still. Note the caveat: a mission-level commitment is not the same as accessible buildings, and no accessibility provision was documented, so verify the physical reality if it affects you.
- DIRECT ENTRY: two ACSEE principal passes at E or above totalling 4.0 points.
- IF YOU INTEND TO PRACTISE LAW, GET BAR ADMISSION RECOGNITION IN WRITING FIRST. ZU has taught law and Shariah since 1999, but recognition for admission to the bar was not confirmed. Zanzibar runs its own legal system including Kadhi courts applying Islamic personal law, so the provision has direct local application — but confirm the professional route before enrolling.
- ZU announced faculties of science, engineering and health sciences 'within the next seven or so years' in material dating to the 2000s. That horizon has long passed and their existence is unconfirmed — do not assume science or health provision without checking.
- No phone, email or postal address was found for ZU despite it operating since 1998. Reach it through the website.
- Accepts international applicants
