Tuition
- No SUMAIT fee figures could be verified — contact info@sumait.ac.tz or +255 24 223 0000. ASK ABOUT TWO FUNDING ROUTES THAT WILL NOT APPEAR IN ANY FEE DIRECTORY. First, DIRECT AID INTERNATIONAL: the university is named after Abdulrahman Al-Sumait, the Kuwaiti doctor whose Africa Muslim Agency — now Direct Aid International — funds Islamic education across Africa. Whether it subsidises fees here is the single most consequential financial question and is not advertised. Second, zakat or waqf endowment bursaries, common at Islamic institutions and rarely listed publicly. IF YOU ARE FROM THE MAINLAND, budget for ferry or flight travel to and from Zanzibar as a recurring cost, and note the tourism economy pushes local prices up. Zanzibari applicants must use ZCSRA rather than mainland RITA for HESLB document certification. Add the TZS 20,000 annual TCU quality assurance fee.
Admissions
- SUMAIT OFFERS TWO ROUTES IN. Degree programmes are TCU-approved, while its Department of Continuing Education, established 2014, runs certificate and diploma courses accredited by NACTE — so there is an entry point without ACSEE principal passes.
- DIRECT ENTRY to a degree: two ACSEE principal passes at E or above totalling 4.0 points.
- If you are not Muslim, ask whether you would be admitted. This was not established — though note the institution began life as the University College of Education Zanzibar, a general teacher training college, which suggests a broad intake.
- Ask whether Arabic is required for any Islamic studies provision.
- Accepts international applicants
