Tuition
- No KU fee figures could be verified — request the current fee structure from info@ku.ac.ke or +254 20 8703000 before committing. The funding context matters more than the sticker price anyway: Kenya's framework has been under continuous litigation since 2023 and is being rewritten, so any figure you are quoted should carry a date. KU is a public university and appears on the list eligible for BOTH Universities Fund scholarships and HELB loans, which makes it materially cheaper for a needy student than any private university, since private institutions currently access loans only. Government support is means-tested across five bands by household income. Apply at hef.co.ke as soon as KUCCPS places you. Fees are paid by M-Pesa through the eCitizen paybill 222222 with a portal-generated reference, or through KU's own eCitizen service where you can apply and pay by mobile money. Budget separately for accommodation, meals, transport and materials. KENYAN PUBLIC UNIVERSITY FUNDING: government-sponsored students placed through KUCCPS pay around KES 16,000 a year; the figures shown here are the SELF-SPONSORED rate. That placement decision is close to a tenfold difference and is made by KUCCPS central placement, not by the university. Funding runs through the Higher Education Financing (HEF) model and HELB loans at hef.co.ke. WHO IT SUITS: education, humanities and health science applicants wanting a large, well-equipped suburban campus. PERFORMING ARTS AND SPORTS SCIENCE are uncommon provision in this directory. Three health recognitions are recorded — NCK for nursing, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, and KMPDC.
Admissions
- The national minimum for degree entry is a KCSE mean grade of C+, but that is a floor, not a threshold for admission — placement depends on your KUCCPS cluster weight for the specific programme.
- Government-sponsored applicants are placed through KUCCPS. Self-sponsored applicants apply directly through admissions.ku.ac.ke or through KU's eCitizen service.
- Programme-specific cluster subject requirements are published by KUCCPS each cycle; confirm yours before ranking choices.
- Accepts international applicants
