Tuition
- READ THIS BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE IF YOU ARE APPLYING FOR MEDICINE. KeMU was the first private university in Kenya to train and graduate medical doctors — a genuine distinction — but its recognition by the KENYA MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS AND DENTISTS COUNCIL was NOT confirmed in this research. Without KMPDC recognition a graduate cannot register to practise medicine in Kenya. Get that confirmation IN WRITING from the university before committing to a five-to-six-year degree; it is the single highest-stakes question in this directory. Ask two related things at the same time: which teaching hospital you would do clinical placements at, and the TOTAL multi-year programme cost rather than the annual figure. No KeMU fee figures could be verified. For scale, medicine is the most expensive course type in Kenya — the University of Nairobi's reaches about KSh 600,000 a year, and a private institution would typically exceed that. As a private university KeMU accesses HELB loans only, not Universities Fund scholarships, so the public route at UoN or Moi is substantially cheaper for a needy student. The honest counter-argument is availability: public medical places are severely rationed by KUCCPS cluster weight, and KeMU may be the only realistic route for many applicants — which is exactly why the accreditation question has to be settled first. Teacher-training applicants should likewise confirm Teachers Service Commission recognition, required for employment as a teacher in Kenya.
Admissions
- MEDICINE APPLICANTS: obtain written confirmation of Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council recognition before enrolling. It was not confirmed here and determines whether you can ever practise.
- EDUCATION APPLICANTS: confirm Teachers Service Commission recognition, which is required to be employed as a teacher in Kenya.
- The national minimum for degree entry is a KCSE mean grade of C+; medicine requires substantially higher grades and specific science subjects. KeMU's own thresholds were not published.
- KeMU offers the full qualification ladder — certificate, diploma, degree, masters and PhD — across four schools.
- Accepts international applicants
