- No Gretsa fee figures could be verified — contact info@gretsauniversity.ac.ke or +254 712 959 293. ASK FOR THE CURRENT STRUCTURE SPECIFICALLY: Gretsa gained its full charter only in November 2025, and institutions commonly restructure pricing on a status change, so older figures may be stale. For the same reason CONFIRM HELB ELIGIBILITY DIRECTLY rather than assuming it — institutions operating under a Letter of Interim Authority and chartered universities can be treated differently by HELB, and Gretsa moved between those categories recently. As a private university it accesses HELB loans only, not Universities Fund scholarships. Thika living costs are below Nairobi at roughly 45km on the Thika Superhighway.
Admissions
- The national minimum for degree entry is a KCSE mean grade of C+. Gretsa's own requirements were not published — contact admission@gretsauniversity.ac.ke.
- ONE PIECE OF DUE DILIGENCE IS WORTH DOING HERE, AND IT IS A MATTER OF PUBLIC RECORD. In 2018 Gretsa was audited by the Commission for University Education as part of an investigation into a politician's degree. That audit uncovered UNRELATED GRADING FRAUD, and CUE recommended revoking the Letter of Interim Authority under which the institution was then operating. Gretsa continued to operate and was awarded a FULL CHARTER in November 2025, becoming Kenya's 31st private chartered university — which indicates the regulator is now satisfied. Both facts belong together. Given the history, asking CUE directly to confirm that Gretsa's charter is current and that your intended programme is approved is a sensible step before you commit money.
- IF APPLYING FOR THE BACHELOR OF EDUCATION (ARTS): you take any TWO teaching subjects from English, Literature in English, Kiswahili, Christian Religious Education and History. Ask for written confirmation of Teachers Service Commission recognition.
- Accepts international applicants
