Tuition
- No fee document published by the University of Gitwe. The only figures available come from a scholarship aggregator — roughly USD 1,000 a year undergraduate and USD 1,200 graduate — and whether the six-year medical programme is priced differently is unknown. For a six-year professional degree, establish the TOTAL cost before committing, not the annual figure. Contact info@uog.ac.rw. One further check is worth making: a May 2017 news report referred to the Higher Education Council assessing Gitwe University's reopening, which implies a period of suspension whose circumstances and outcome are not documented. The university's website is live and operating today, but for a medical degree you should ask HEC directly to confirm current accreditation, and ask how the qualification is treated by the medical council wherever you intend to practise. Approximately RWF 500,000-900,000 per year, with MEDICAL TRACKS AT THE HIGHER END — do not budget from the lower figure if you are applying to medicine or nursing. Eligible for local government and BRD loan schemes on the accredited health sciences tracks.
Admissions
- An Advanced General Certificate of Secondary Education with at least two principal passes permitting entry to higher education, or equivalent.
- MEDICINE (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery): two principal passes with at least grade C in BOTH Chemistry and Biology, from Physics-Chemistry-Biology or Mathematics-Chemistry-Biology combinations. An A2 Certificate in Nursing Sciences with at least two principal passes in core subjects is an alternative route.
- NURSING (BSc General Nursing): the same subject combinations but a lower threshold — at least grade D in both Chemistry and Biology. The same A2 Nursing alternative applies.
- Admission to medicine is holistic: the university states academic excellence is necessary but not sufficient to succeed as a physician, and assesses each applicant's overall achievements including non-academic areas.
- Applicants should keep the admissions office informed of any change to their email address, postal address or telephone number during the notification period.
- The university states it admits all students without discrimination of race, nationality, region or religion.
