Tuition
- No SPU tuition figures could be verified — call the TOLL-FREE line 0800 723 000 or email info@spu.ac.ke or contactcenter@spu.ac.ke. Postgraduate application costs KSh 3,000. A funding route worth pursuing that exists nowhere else in this directory: SPU IS JOINTLY OWNED BY FIVE CHURCH BODIES with published shares — Anglican Church of Kenya 50%, Presbyterian Church of East Africa 20%, Methodist Church in Kenya 10%, Reformed Church of East Africa 10%, and the National Council of Churches of Kenya 10%. If you are a member of any of those, ask whether your church offers bursaries for SPU study; denominational support is a plausible and largely unexplored route here. As a private university SPU accesses HELB loans only, not Universities Fund scholarships. Kenyan private university fees generally run from roughly KSh 100,000 a year upward, and SPU's theology and social science emphasis suggests the lower to middle part of that range. KES 110,000-280,000 a year at the private rate — at the lower end for a private Kenyan university. WHO IT SUITS: humanities, community development, communication and theology applicants wanting a values-driven environment. SPU OFFERS INTERNAL PARTIAL BURSARIES alongside government loans, and its distance and evening options make it workable alongside employment.
Admissions
- KCSE mean grade C+ for degree programmes, with programme-specific cluster requirements.
- Bachelor of Education (Arts) requires C+ overall AND at least C+ in each of your two teaching subjects, or 2 Principal passes at A Level plus 1 Subsidiary. Education (Science) falls under KUCCPS Cluster 22, needing C+ in a science subject.
- POSTGRADUATE APPLICANTS: SPU requires THREE referees — academic, professional AND RELIGIOUS. The religious referee is unusual and reflects the university's Christian character; line one up early rather than being caught out.
- Postgraduate documents: completed form, certified academic and professional certificates and transcripts, ID or passport copy, the three referee letters, proof of the KSh 3,000 fee, and three passport photographs.
- A subject may only be counted once in the KUCCPS cluster calculation.
- Accepts international applicants
- Scholarships or financial aid available
