Ruaha Catholic University (RUCU) is a private university in Tanzania. It is located in Iringa, Tanzania. It was started by the Tanzania Episcopal Conference.

A LOW-COMMITMENT WAY IN: RUCU runs a documented CERTIFICATE (1 year) → DIPLOMA (2 years) → DEGREE (3 years) ladder in computer science, so the one-year certificate lets you test the field at a fraction of the cost before committing to a full degree. Few institutions here document a progression route that clearly. Add the TZS 20,000 annual TCU quality assurance fee. Iringa living costs are well below Dar es Salaam. RUCU was founded through the monetary support of individuals within and outside Tanzania, so ask whether that donor base extends to student bursaries, and ask your diocese about sponsorship.

- IF YOU ARE NOT CATHOLIC, THIS ONE IS ANSWERED: RUCU states directly that despite Catholic governance under Ex corde Ecclesiae it is a SECULAR institution open to all regardless of faith or religious affiliation, and that it does not discriminate on race, ethnicity, gender, disability or caste. That is one of very few explicit non-discrimination statements anywhere in this directory, and the only one from a faith-founded institution — most leave the question unanswered.
- CHECK WHOSE NAME GOES ON THE CERTIFICATE. RUCU appears both as Ruaha University College, a constituent college of St. Augustine University of Tanzania, and independently as Ruaha Catholic University with 'Accredited' status on TCU's March 2025 list. Those imply different degree-awarding bodies. Confirm the current position before enrolling.
- IF APPLYING FOR THE LLB: ask whether the degree qualifies you to proceed toward legal practice in Tanzania. This was not confirmed and is essential for law applicants.
- IF APPLYING FOR NURSING OR A HEALTH PROGRAMME: ask which professional council recognises it — registration is what allows you to practise.
