Tuition
- DeKUT has the clearest published cost picture of any Kenyan university in this directory, and the gap between funding routes is the headline. GOVERNMENT-SPONSORED first-year total payable was KSh 36,320-39,215 depending on programme, itemised as KSh 16,000 tuition (KSh 8,000 a semester, paid on registration day), KSh 580 registration, KSh 1,500 KUCCPS fee and KSh 5,906 examination fees — note those named items total KSh 23,986, so roughly KSh 12,000-15,000 of further charges exist that were not itemised; ask for the full table. SELF-SPONSORED first-year undergraduate was KSh 172,800 — about 4.5 times the government rate, so KUCCPS placement is worth roughly KSh 133,000 a year, over half a million shillings across a four-year degree. IMPORTANT: the government figures date from 2019/2020 and will have risen; treat them as showing the STRUCTURE, not today's amounts. INTERNATIONAL students pay an extra 20% (lower than USIU-Africa's 30%). Accommodation is KSh 5,000 a semester, first come first served — the cheapest recorded in this directory, against JKUAT's KSh 15,000-30,000. Application fees are KSh 1,000 for degrees and KSh 500 for diploma, certificate and professional courses. NURSING HAS AN ENTIRELY SEPARATE FEE STRUCTURE from every other programme — nursing applicants must not assume the general schedule applies. DeKUT does NOT accept cash: pay to designated bank accounts (Family Bank 055000028807, Nyeri Branch) or official online channels, and submit valid deposit slips as proof. Fees may be revised in line with Central Bank of Kenya inflation, announced by the Council before the academic year starts.
Admissions
- Complete TWO copies of the application form, typed or in block letters, with TWO coloured passport-size photographs attached, and return them to the Registrar Academic Affairs and Research, P.O. Box 657-10100 Nyeri.
- Pay the application fee online via eCitizen at dekutservices.dkut.ac.ke — enter the invoice code generated and keep the M-Pesa code. KSh 1,000 for degrees, KSh 500 for diploma, certificate and professional courses.
- Engineering programmes require a strong grounding in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, with high proficiency expected. Civil Engineering states this explicitly.
- If you fall short on entry subjects, DeKUT runs BRIDGING COURSES in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry — a genuine second route into engineering and science degrees.
- Admission is partly based on entrance examinations as well as past academic records.
- Accepts international applicants
