- No HKMU fee figures could be verified — contact vc@ku.ac.tz or +255 22 270 0021. NOTE THE NAME AND DOMAIN: the institution now operates as KAIRUKI UNIVERSITY at ku.ac.tz, and hkmu.ac.tz redirects there — searching under the old name may not find current material. For a multi-year private medical degree, establish the FULL programme cost rather than the annual figure. Health workforce programmes commonly carry HESLB loan priority, which for private medical study is the decisive financial question; confirm it before accepting a place. Dar es Salaam living costs are the highest in Tanzania. Add the TZS 20,000 annual TCU quality assurance fee plus uniforms, equipment and placement travel.
Admissions
- IF INTERNATIONAL PRACTICE IS YOUR GOAL, THIS IS THE MOST CONSEQUENTIAL FACT IN THE TANZANIAN DIRECTORY — BUT VERIFY IT IS CURRENT. HKMU is recognised by the World Health Organization and listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED). IMED listing affects whether graduates can sit licensing examinations in other countries, including the United States. Across all three countries in this directory, HKMU is one of very few institutions with any confirmed international medical recognition. Because a medical degree is a multi-year decision, ask the university to confirm in writing that both remain current — if either has lapsed, relying on it would be a serious mistake.
- INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION IS NOT DOMESTIC REGISTRATION. To practise in Tanzania you still need the relevant professional council registration, which was not confirmed. Ask about both.
- ASK WHERE CLINICAL ROTATIONS TAKE PLACE. Unlike CUHAS at Bugando, KCMUCo at Kilimanjaro and SFUCHAS at Ifakara, NO ATTACHED TEACHING HOSPITAL WAS IDENTIFIED for HKMU. For a medical school that is a material question.
- DIRECT ENTRY: two ACSEE principal passes at E or above totalling 4.0 points, though medical cut-offs sit far above that and require specific science subjects.
- Accepts international applicants
