Welwitchia University grew from the Welwitchia Health Training Centre, founded in 2013, and was recognised as a private university in 2024. It teaches mainly nursing and health sciences, social work, education, law and management from Windhoek and regional campuses including Katima Mulilo, Walvis Bay, Outapi and Nkurenkuru, with distance and e-learning options.
