Vista University

Pretoria, South Africa · University · Public institution · Founded 1981 · Accredited by Council on Higher Education (CHE) · Taught in English · 32,182 students

Established under the Vista University Act No. 106 of 1981, Vista University operated a decentralized system with campuses in several urban townships, including Soweto, Mamelodi, Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth, Sebokeng, East Rand, and Welkom, alongside a distance education campus in Pretoria. The institution aimed to provide accessible higher education and teacher training to black communities who were otherwise restricted from attending historically white universities. In 2004, as part of a national restructuring of South African higher education, the university was dissolved, and its various campuses were incorporated into other regional universities.
