Established in 2014 by presidential decree, the University of El Geneina was formed from faculties previously affiliated with the University of Zalingei. The university offers undergraduate programs across several disciplines, including medicine, health sciences, education, economics, and media. Despite facing severe infrastructure damage and displacement of its academic community due to the conflict in Darfur, the university continues to facilitate academic progress and graduations through alternative campuses and regional collaborations.
