Originally founded in 1983 as a Teacher Training School, the institution evolved into a National Institute of Higher Mechanics, then a University Center, and was officially promoted to a full university in 2009. Named after the Algerian national hero Larbi Ben M'hidi, the university comprises seven faculties and three institutes spread across multiple campuses in Oum El Bouaghi, Aïn Beïda, and Aïn M'lila. It provides diverse academic programs under the LMD (Licence, Master, Doctorat) system and is recognized for its research in fundamental, applied, and social sciences.
