Established on April 30, 1952, as the Escola Industrial de Luanda, the Instituto Politécnico Industrial de Luanda (IPIL) is a reference institution for technical-professional education in Angola. It offers secondary-technical programs across five main areas: Civil Construction, Electricity, Electronics and Telecommunications, Informatics, Mechanics, and Chemistry. The institute is historically known as the Instituto Médio Industrial de Luanda (IMIL) and 'Makarenko', and has trained a significant portion of the country's technical and political elite.
